As I mentioned above, when we download something on Google Chrome, the files gets directly saved into the downloads folder. There is no prompt for changing the filename or changing the download location either.
We should have the flexibility of changing the download location because at times if there is a storage issue on our phone memory, we should be able to download stuff to the external storage. But sadly chrome for Android doesn’t have the feature enabled by default.

But the developer version of Chrome and Chrome Canary has the option enabled. For the normal Chrome users, you can get the option by manually making some changes to Chrome Flags. Step 1: Open Google Chrome(obviously…duh).
Step 2: Enter this URL in Chrome. or You can search “enable download location change”.

Step 3: Change Enable Download location change option to Enabled. Click on Relaunch Now button to restart the browser so that the changes can take effect.
Step 4: Click in the Menu button and navigate to downloads. Now you can see that there is a setting button (cog icon) in the Download option.
Step 5: Click on the Download Location option to change it. You can check the “Ask where to save each file before downloading” option to get the prompt before downloading any file. You can change download location before file is being downloaded or in download settings (images above)

If you don’t want the feature after testing it out, you can simple disable it. Follow the step above and just find the Enable Download location change option and change it to Disabled and you are good to go.

Go to Settings from the Menu. Once you are in the Google Chrome Settings page, just use the search bar to find out Downloads section. You can see the Location option were you can change the download location.
You also have a toggle Ask where to save each file before downloading which when turned on shows prompt each time you try downloading a file from Chrome. You can leave it turned off if you don’t want to change the download location for each and every downloads.
